Aquila Bayan
Born and raised in Bugev Village in the mountainous Morobe province of Papua New Guinea, Aquila Bayan is a local indigenous tour guide and art agent.
Wanting to connect artists with buyers from around the globe seeking unique artefacts, Aquila has a strong desire to share Papuan Art with the world plus Cultural and Trekking Tours.
Sourcing traditionally made pieces using locally sourced materials, Aquila has a unique perspective of Papua New Guinean history and culture.
In this tropical environment where the vast majority of the inhabitants live largely traditional village lifestyles in agricultural societies – Aquila has drawn on knowledge passed down through generations to begin operating tours that encompass unique local sites and experiences.
His village which is about two hours drive from the capital city of Lae is well known for its arts and crafts. Aquila’s tours centre around bringing tourists to his village to experience the diverse scenery and experience traditional village life. In doing so he hopes to boost the economy of his village.
As a guide, his Tours will introduce visitors to Papuan performers who showcase traditional song, dance and other shows plus the floral and fauna including outstanding waterfalls and treks from small easy walks to longer challenging walks staying in a Village, living in a traditional environment.
Inspired by his family, his culture and his land, Aquila hopes to help his community, liberate his family from poverty and showcase his culture to the world.
